Airline carriers are considering launching direct air services connecting Kochi with Dhaka and Ethiopia, announced Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) MD S Suhas during the inauguration of the Medical Value Travel Meet 2024, hosted by the Kerala Medical Tourism Facilitators Forum (KMTFF) on Thursday.

Suhas emphasized that a coordinated effort between the tourism department, health departments, airports, and various medical associations in Kerala could substantially boost the number of visitors seeking wellness treatments in the state.

The meet saw active participation from representatives of hospitals and clinics across Kerala, who gathered to discuss strategies for enhancing the state’s medical tourism potential. KMTFF officials highlighted ongoing activities aimed at attracting tourists from African nations, indicating a strong focus on expanding Kerala’s reach in the medical tourism sector.

A panel discussion titled ‘Growth and Benefits of Health Tourism in Kerala’ was also a key feature of the event. Panellists advocated for the relaxation of visa regulations, noting that obtaining a medical visa is currently a prerequisite for treatment in India. They urged the Centre to take necessary steps to make medical travel more accessible.

The collaborative efforts and discussions at the meet underscore Kerala’s commitment to becoming a premier destination for medical tourism, leveraging its advanced healthcare facilities and strategic location.
